Citizen Action of New York, the progressive good-government group that fights for education improvements, affordable health care, and public financing of campaigns has announced its final six endorsements for New York’s congressional delegation. The candidates endorsed embody the goals of Citizen United: prioritizing quality health care for all, campaign finance reform, immigrant protections, clean energy jobs, and excellent public schools.

The candidates recently endorsed include Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14); Max Rose (NY-11); Jerry Nadler (NY-10); Nydia Velazquez (NY-7); Hakim Jeffries (NY-8); and Jose Serrano (NY-15). Of these six endorsements, Nadler, Velazquez, Jeffries and Serrano are incumbent members of the U.S. House of Representatives. Ocasio-Cortez is currently running against Anthony Pappas and Elizabeth Perri for the House seat in New York’s 14th District. Rose is facing off against Republican incumbent Dan Donovan in New York’s 11th District.

Citizen Action is focused on electing progressive candidates in critical house seats across New York state. The organization has been at the forefront of taking back the 19th and 20th Congressional Districts from what they call Trump Republicans. They already mobilized hundreds of volunteers to knock on doors in order to turn out the vote for Antonio Delgado (NY-19) and Anthony Brindisi (NY-22).

“Citizen Action is proud to be endorsing six tremendous candidates for Congress. Nadler, Velazquez, Jeffries and Serrano have proven themselves to be strong allies in the movement for equity and justice,” said Margaret Segall, board member of Citizen Action of New York. “We are excited by the energy and vision Ocasio-Cortez and Rose will bring to Congress, and we look forward to working with them to make housing more affordable, fix our broken infrastructure, and ensure high-quality public schools for our youth.”

“Like Citizen Action, our campaign is committed to ensuring that our justice system lifts up the many, instead of protecting the wealthy few. I look forward to working with their members in our continued efforts to transform our political process into one that works for all people,” said Ocasio-Cortez. Nadler also expressed his enthusiasm about receiving the endorsement from Citizen Action for re-election, and praised the organization for its progressive agenda.

The 2018 general election will be held on November 6.
