Student activists and coalition members had to rally on the upper floors of the Million Dollar Staircase due to crowdedness.
On Wednesday March 18, students from across the state coalesced at the Million Dollar Staircase for the fifth annual Youth Day of Action, to demand legislative changes that would positively affect their community and future.
Several Key speakers, like Assemblymember Phara Souffrant Forrest (D-57), and members from the many organizations present rallied to empower future generations of activists
One of non-profit immigration group Make the Road’s activists, a youth member named Guadalupe, took the stand, where she spoke about how immigration enforcement has affected her neighborhood and school communities. Her story provided a powerful insight into how policies impact local families and students.
Activists held signs emphasizing their collective concerns regarding justice and climate change. Chants of “ICE go away!” and “Our New York, our future, our fight” could be heard throughout the Grand Western Staircase.
